Midland Honda Moving Day
Midland Honda Moving Day
Posted on March 4, 2021
The dawning of the new Midland Honda dealership happened November 20 at 7 am as two flat bed trucks pulled up and awaited instructions for coordinating the move of fifteen or so white shipping containers from one store to the other. A large crane at the old site, gingerly lifted the containers, which are laden with customer tires, on top of the trucks for transport to their new resting places at the back of the new location. Another equally huge crane lifted the tire containers into position and placed each box with pin point precision on to poured concrete landing pads. The simple and effective landing pad, a small construction detail to prevent the freshly paved asphalt from being depressed by the weight of the containers, signifies the amount of design thought and execution that extends throughout the new Midland Honda Dealership.
The forward leaning design that will allow a flow of cars to move through the high speed Service doors into the maintenance area was not apparent on Friday. Many construction trades continued their work at pace while the space was being invaded by staff loading in boxes, printers, furniture and other work gear. Pretty amazing that the project managers didn’t raise up their hands and say, ‘Watch where you’re going with that stuff!’ The construction people were very cool and helpful during Friday’s move-in chaos probably because there was a great deal of positive energy being expressed by the Midland Honda staff as they checked out their beautiful new digs. The parking area around the building soon filled as the shuttle drivers moved all the Honda vehicle inventory over to the new location. Once the lot was populated it just looked and felt right!
The only thing missing Friday night, as the darkness descended and the crews called it a day, was the external power to illuminate the new Midland Honda sign in the parking lot. Richard Davies mentioned to me that the electricians had it on their extensive to do list for the following week. Plenty more work yet to be done. An amazing amount of tasks were in motion on Friday and from my vantage point it was an exceptionally smooth and successful transition to the new Dealership. Kudos to the leadership and staff of Midland Honda!
Until next time,
Macky
