The Honda plant in Greensburg Indiana is just about ready to roll the 2022 Civic Hatchback off the line and sometime soon Midland Honda will have a marvelous boost blue Civic hatch ready for inspection in the showroom. You will be blown away by the clean Euro inspired design! This machine’s sleek energetic profile has a less formal stance than the 2022 Civic Sedan, largely because of the fastback roofline and the five-inch shorter rear body overhang. The coupe body work will become the foundation for the Civic Si and Civic R and these high-performance models will be gracing the Midland showroom not soon enough!
Honda aimed the Civic Hatchback at active buyers with increased versatility and a sportier driving character. The interior builds on the Civic Sedan’s clean and simple design philosophy by improving rear seat packaging and cargo area access. The key is the new lightweight resin composite hatch structure that has improved torsional rigidity. This allows for a reduced hinge size thereby helping to create a clean roofline and a cargo opening that is 1.6 inches wider than the 10th gen Civic Hatchback. Designers have created a unique taillight design and center high mounted stop lamp that spans nearly the entire width of the hatch further emphasizing the hatchback’s wider track, which is 0.5 inches wider than last year's Civic Hatchback.
The sharp, clean design approach to the roofline was enhanced by Honda’s Laser Brazing manufacturing process. This technology, introduced in the 10th-gen Honda Accord, has been applied to the 2022 Civic line-up. The rubber strip that was used to hide the weld trough between the body panels and the roof is now gone. The new Civic has an almost seamless join making the roofline sleek and beautiful. Laser brazing is completed at a lower temperature preventing the base metals at the join from melting. This results in a significantly stronger bond using lighter components and the torsional rigidity has increased by 19%. A stronger body is not only safer but it offers better handling as the body flexes less and all the key structures of the car’s control systems, the steering and suspension, remain rigidly in their fixed positions. The lighter weight also keeps fuel consumption low and improves the Civic’s agility.
This 2022 Civic Sedan and Hatchback have a long checklist of improvements and firsts. From applying spray foam to the hollow portions of the body structure resulting in the quietest Civic in history to the first Civic with an aluminium hood that helps with fuel efficiency. Honda engineers and designers have worked hand in hand to create an outstanding package that Midland Honda invites you to check out!
Until next time,
